John Lewis Voter Advancement Day Votercade – South Bay LA
May 8 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
First Christian Church
2930 El Dorado St
Torrance, CA 90503
To show our support for voting rights and for federal legislation like HR1, HR4, DC Statehood and getting rid of the filibuster, will be ‘votercades’ (aka motorcades) – 136 so far – all over the country on May 8 to draw attention to voting rights. The national organization is sponsored by more than 100 groups including the Transformative Justice Coalition, the NAACP, the Southern Poverty Law center, on and on…
We are planning an event in Torrance – ISBLA is the initial organizer and we have signed on Generation Blue, Indivisible Beach Cities, Field Team 6, Sister District South Bay, Episcopal Peace Fellowship, the Peace & Justice community from St. Cross Episcopal Church and others as co-sponsors.
Sign up here!
The timing – 11am to noon, we will drive in motorcades with people having decorated their cars with signage about voting rights. At noon, we’re gathering at the First Christian Church in Torrance (outside) where we will have some speakers talking about voting rights. The event is only a few hours in total.
After people sign up via Mobilize, they’ll get detailed email updates prior to the event. We expect this to be a fun, family-friendly event.
Background information from the national organizers:
Summary: Join us on May 8 to demand the passage of the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and D.C. Statehood and to address one of the greatest obstacles to the passage of civil and voting rights – and one of the last vestiges of slavery – the filibuster!
