Beach Cities Democrats is the officially chartered Democratic organization for Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Our meetings feature updates from our local electeds as well as explanations of upcoming legislation and issues to help you make informed decisions. All are welcome to attend our free monthly meetings.

The Beach Cities Dems meets at 7:00 PM on the fourth Wednesday of every month (except December) at the Hermosa Beach Community Center on Pier Avenue. We participate in many local events every year.

The Beach Cities Health District has been working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the City of Redondo Beach to support COVID-19 testing efforts in the South Bay and our community during this unprecedented time.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is the lead agency for the COVID-19 testing at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach. These tests are free of charge.

All tests at the South Bay Galleria will be by appointment only. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has established a website with the City of Los Angeles to schedule appointments.

Free COVID-19 testing is now available to ALL Los Angeles County residents, whether or not you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms!

BEACH CITIES DEMOCRATS:

In response to a request from Supervisor Janice Hahn, the LA County Departments of Mental Health and Public Health are increasing services and outreach to communities impacted by fear, anxiety, and discrimination associated with the Coronavirus outbreak.

The LA County Departments of Mental Health and Public Health announced plans to distribute information about Asian Pacific Islander mental health providers, educational information on anxiety, bullying, depression, and connect people in need with the 24/7 Department of Mental Health ACCESS Line. They will also distribute accurate information about the Coronavirus in order to combat the spread of disinformation about the disease.

We would appreciate your help in distributing the attached guide for coping with stress during an infectious disease outbreak. You can find a link to the guide here in English, as well as Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

We want to stress that there is currently only one confirmed case of Coronavirus in Los Angeles County. However, residents across the County, especially in the Asian Pacific Islander community have experienced harassment, discrimination, and elevated levels of anxiety and fear because of the outbreak overseas.

Thank you so much for your help and our office will continue to keep you informed about the County’s efforts to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and address the stress, anxiety, and discrimination associated with the outbreak.

Beach Cities Democrats has officially endorsed all four of the bills introduced this year by the California Clean Money Campaign:

SB 47, the Petition disclose Act(Allen)
Requires initiative signature-gatherers to show voters the top 3 funders of the signature-gathering effort.

SB 636, the Ballot Disclose Act(Stern)
Requires the ballots people vote on to list 3 supporters and opponents of each state ballot measure.

AB 1217, the Issue Ad Disclose Act(Mullin)
Requires lobbying issue ads and sham issue ads to clearly show their top 3 funders.

AB 1784, the Secure the VOTE Act (Santiago-Chiu-Gonzalez) & budget matching funds requests by Assemblymembers Santiago & Chiu and Senators Wiener & Allen.
Allocates up to $16 million in state matching funds to help counties develop, certify, and share publicly owned Open-Source Paper Ballot voting systems to count votes instead of secret corporate-owned voting systems.
