and a presentation from LAANEinfo@laane.org
(Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy) about their
“Our People Our Port” campaign working to create good jobs,
healthy communities, and a clean environment at the
Ports of Los Angeles & Long Beach, #ProtectAllWorkers

Join us for a Zoom Meetinghttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/7904879873

Meeting ID: 790 487 9873 with a moderated Q & A session to follow.

Monday, June 8, 7pm

Port truckers are on the frontlines, hauling critical medical supplies
and food at the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach.
A just released report shows most drivers haven’t been given
masks or gloves. AND most don’t have paid sick days or think
their trucking companies are doing enough to protect them.
Here’s the report:

The following is a message from Rusty Hicks, Chair of the California Democratic Party.

What’s happening in this country — in Minnesota, and right here in California — is an unspeakable tragedy and an epic failure of our justice system.

The California Democratic Party unequivocally denounces the racist violence inflicted upon Black Americans each and every day. We must speak out to demand true justice — not just for George Floyd — but for all those taken too soon at the hands of racial violence and police brutality.

Unfortunately, we are well beyond the point of thoughtful prayers, profound tweets, or hopeful messages.

We must act. Not later. But now.

It begins in our homes and in our communities. To counter systemic racism, we must start having conversations about race at the dinner table, tangibly supporting black creators, artists, and activists, and contributing to groups doing necessary work on the ground like Black Lives Matter, NAACP, and Color of Change, to name just a few.

The tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others must prompt us to stand up, speak out, and eradicate the systemic violence, murder, and hate that continues to target Black Americans.

Until then, we fall woefully short of our highest collective calling — to ensure “liberty and justice for all.”

The California Democratic Party is committed to ending the deep-seeded racism and brutal violence perpetrated against Black women and men each and every day. As long as they cannot breathe, we cannot and will not rest.

In solidarity,

Rusty Hicks

Chair

California Democratic Party
